Applications

The TE-drum brake is a state of the art industrial brake. It is an extremely heavy duty design for applications in general machine building, foundries, steel mills, and in the crane and material handling industries. This brake design applies to single and multishift operations, as well as, wind power generator applications where a constant braking torque is required for safety and, to a greater degree, economic reasons.
The TE design offers the optimum in environmental protection by utilizing highly sophisticated asbestos-free brake linings. (Please inquire about applications involving explosion proof requirements).

Design Advantages
  • Stable brake arms and base plate constructed of cast iron GGG 40 (welded steel is available upon special request). This heavy construction assures minimum deflection resulting in reduced losses in thruster travel.
  • Optimal Arm Geometry, i.e. maximized mechanical advantage - not affected by direction of rotation.
  • Square spring tube with scale for simple and relaible braking moment adjustments.
  • Special brake pressure spring with the lowest possible spring rate for optimal utilization of the thruster power under normal operating conditions.
  • Light alloy brake shoes with steel bushing support brake linings (friction coefficients of µ = 0.4 or µ = 0.3). Brake shoes can be riveted or bonded with asbestos free linings.
  • Special clamping springs that hold the brake shoes in position when the brake is "lifted" open. These springs can also be easily released when the brake linings are being replaced.
  • All important bearing areas equipped with maintenance-free bushings.
  • Rotary linkage of the brake arms:
    • Both shoes have equal and even clearance.
    • Automatic brake adjustment when installing.
    • No "stops" or further adjustments needed.
    • Brake stability assured when brake is open, even with worn linings.
  • Pin constructed of rust and acid resistant steel per DIN 17440. Upon special request, all key bearings can be fitted with lubrication fittings.
  • Spring tube spindle can be supplied in stainless steel.
  • Tension rod of rust-resistant stainless steel.
  • Electroplated standard parts.

Optional Features
  • Automatic lining wear compensation.
  • Limit switch to sense brake position.
  • Limit switch to sense lining wear.
  • Manual release devices.
  • Brake drums with hubs and couplings.
