Hindon industrial pneumatic brakes provide a cost-effective and maintenance-friendly industrial braking solution for a wide range of applications. Available in fail-safe (spring applied) and active (pneumatically applied) designs, pneumatic brakes are well suited for applications where the cleanliness of pneumatics is a priority, where the customer already has air in the area of the brake, and where torque requirements are within a range that can be achieved by pneumatic brakes.

Hindon’s wide range of industrial pneumatic brakes are available in disc and drum brake styles, with various mounting and thruster configurations available, and can be equipped with different brake pad materials and limit switch arrangements.

The design of pneumatic brakes ensures simple commissioning and reduced maintenance requirements compared to other types of industrial brakes. Their relatively lightweight and compact construction makes them an efficient solution for tight spaces in applications with lower braking torque demands, frequently making them an excellent choice for holding brake and tensioning brake applications.

Fail-Safe Pneumatic Brakes (Spring Applied, Pneumatically Released)

Pneumatic fail-safe brakes are spring applied and use pneumatic pressure to hold open the brake. If the brake is turned off or power is lost, the spring quickly engages the brake. Fail-safe operation ensures that the brake reverts to a secure state if air pressure is lost, preventing potential safety hazards to plant personnel or damage to plant equipment. These brakes are often used as holding or service brakes with relatively low torque requirements.

We incorporate both pneumatic fail safe disc and drum brakes into our industrial braking systems. We also provide comprehensive repair services for these brakes.

Advantages:

  • Often a cost-effective solution if existing plant air is available in the area of the brake and torque requirements can be satisfied with pneumatic brakes
  • Compact design and wide array of mounting and thruster configurations makes pneumatic brakes ideal for space constrained applications
  • Easy to commission and maintain

Disadvantages:

  • Since system pneumatic pressure is relatively low (normally much lower than hydraulic pressure), pneumatic brakes aren’t able to generate as much torque as other types of brakes including hydraulic brakes and thruster brakes

Active Pneumatic Brakes (Pneumatically Applied)

Pneumatically applied brakes use air pressure to apply braking force, allowing for adjustability of braking torque by varying the input air pressure. Pneumatically applied brakes are typically used in stopping applications with relatively low torque requirements and limited risk in the event of power loss, as well as in tensioning applications where torque variability is critical.

We use both pneumatically applied disc and drum brakes into our industrial braking systems. We also provide comprehensive repair services for these brakes.

Advantages:

  • Highly cost-effective especially in applications where existing plant air is available in the area of the brake
  • Ideal for tensioning applications due to their outstanding heat dissipation and torque adjustability via slight changes in air pressure
  • When fail-safe operation is not a requirement, pneumatically applied brakes can be successfully implemented in service brake or holding brake applications
  • Easy to commission and maintain

Disadvantages:

  • Not appropriate for applications requiring fail-safe operation
  • Since system pneumatic pressure is relatively low (normally much lower than hydraulic pressure), pneumatic brakes aren’t able to generate as much torque as other types of actively applied brakes such as hydraulic brakes
