Electrohydraulic thruster released brakes, also referred to as thruster brakes, are a type of fail-safe brake. When supplied power, the electrohydraulic thruster piston rod extends and the brake is released. If the thruster is turned off or power is lost, the piston rod retracts and the spring applied brake engages. Electrohydraulic thrusters can be used to actuate both industrial disc and drum brakes.

Electrohydraulic thruster released fail-safe brakes are normally used in service applications with high duty cycles. Their wide-ranging torque adjustability enables fine tuning of the stopping process. Thrusters can also be equipped with an adjustable passive time delay that allows adjustment of closing time, preventing system shock loading in certain applications.
